The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science, through funding with the US Army Corp of Engineers, is in the process of expanding the Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON) with the addition of 6 new data collection stations along the Texas Coast.
The first platform being installed (shown here), is for the new TCOON station at High Island, Texas, about halfway between Galveston and Sabine Pass, Texas. The platforms installed are wooden 4-pile structures installed so the equipment is placed approximately 15 ft. above Mean Sea Level thus reducing the possibility of damage from Tropical Storms and Hurricanes making landfall on the Texas Coast while improving the collection of complete environmental datasets.
Other platforms/stations to be installed over the next few weeks include:
- Sabine Offshore
- High Island
- Sargent
- Matagorda City
- Aransas Wildlife Refuge
- Galveston Railroad Bridge
